Great Barrier Reef

A majorly polluted area that is under protection by the U.S. is the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is detereorating because of severe water pollution. It is illegal to sail through parts of it.

On April 3rd, 2010, A chinese coal carrier ran aground in a restricted zone of the Great Barrier Reef. One of the fuel tanks ruptured and left a 3km long oil slick.

This little incident could severly damage the reef. We need to be more careful about how we treat water. Most of the time, we take it for granted and don't even realize the problems that we're causing for the water.

And it's not just the Great Barrier Reef that needs help. It's any water that has ever been polluted! We all need to help because we all caused this to happen.

The picture on the right is a picture of bleached coral in the GBR. If we don't do something about the pollution soon, all of that colorful pretty coral could end up looking like that. Do you really want that? I know I don't! And bleached coral is just the beginning. A lot of fish are affected by water pollution as well.

You can help diminish the problem at hand by lending your hand to any body of water. Start with a local lake or river or even pond and you'll see just how much of a difference it can make.
